If you want to study in Lagos, you can choose from a variety of Bachelor’s and Post-graduate programs at several universities and colleges.
Lagos State is one state in Nigeria that takes education very seriously, from basic to tertiary level. So, finding where to study in Lagos shouldn’t be much of a problem. There are a number of universities to choose from, and we have made a list of them. Check out this list, and make your choice. Where in Lagos will you be studying?
1. University of Lagos
This is a federal public university in Lagos and undoubtedly the most renowned university in the state. It was founded in 1962 and has since risen to reputable status, graduating people like Professor Rahmon Ade Bello, Professor Babatunde Adetokubo, Genevieve Nnaji (veteran Nigerian actress), and Stella Damasus, Joke Silva, Wale Adenuga, etc.
The University of Lagos has three campuses. The main campus is situated at Akoka. The Radiography school is at Yaba, and the college of medicine stands at Idi-Araba, Surulere. In total, the University of Lagos has twelve faculties and ten research centers.
At the University of Lagos, both undergraduate and post-graduate programs are offered. Undergraduate programs award degrees like the B.sc, B.Ed, B.eng, etc. There are even diploma courses here.
The University of Lagos boasts of a very credible college of medicine. You should study here in Lagos if you want to read medicine or any allied medical courses. They also boast of a very prominent art school. This is evident in how successful graduates of art from the University of Lagos have become.
One of the only downsides of studying at UNILAG is that hostel accommodation might be a problem if you do not apply on time. There isn’t enough for everyone.
Also, being part of the academic staff association of Nigerian Universities (ASUU), the university is affected by strikes once in a while. So, you never really know when you are going to be done with school for sure.
Tuition fees in UNILAG are approximately ₦55,000 for fresh students and not more than ₦20,000 for returning students.

2. National Open University of Nigeria, Lagos
The National Open University of Nigeria is an open distance learning institution and the first to be established in West Africa.
This university, offering more than fifty programs that you can choose from and study in Lagos, has more students than any other university in Nigeria. They believe that you can learn anywhere and at any time. The current Vice-Chancellor is Prof. Olufemi. A Peters.
There are 61 centers of NOUN in Nigeria, and of course, there are some in Lagos State. The National Open University of Nigeria comprises seven faculties, including a school of health sciences and a school of law.
The tuition fee at the National University of Nigeria is just about ₦60,000 to ₦80,000, and this depends on the course you are studying and the degree you are vying for.
Studying at the Open University of Nigeria if you don’t subscribe to the idea of having to sit for lectures in a classroom all day. Unlike federal universities overseen by ASUU, the National Open University does not embark on strikes.

3. Lagos State University
Lagos State University, Ojo, whose motto is: “For truth and service,” is a state-owned public university and was established in 1983.
This university offers both undergraduate and post-graduate degrees. It has up to 36,000 students currently.
The main campus is located at Ojo and is a bit smaller than the residential campus located at Epe. At Epe, the faculty of engineering stands.
Brymo is a renowned award-winning musician schooled at the Lagos State University.
For fresh students, the school fee at the Lagos State University is about ₦150,000 for the session. And for returning students, the school fee is around ₦100,000.
As with the University of Lagos, the Lagos State University has an accommodation problem. There are lots of students, but not enough accommodation, and so students have to settle for renting houses around the school environs. These houses are usually very expensive.
LASU is also subject to strikes whenever ASUU strikes.

4. Lagos State University of Science and Technology
This is definitely one of the best sciences and technology institutions in all of Nigeria.
It stands in Ikorodu, Lagos State, and was formerly a polytechnic until February 2022, when it was officially recognized as a university.
The Lagos State University of Science and Technology currently has up to ₦50,000 students.
LASUTECH offers post-graduate courses as well as undergraduate courses.
Study engineering, architecture, and other science and technology-related courses here in Lagos.
For a state university, the fee at LASUTECH is quite cheap. It does not exceed N200, 000 for returning students.
Like UNILAG, though, LASUTECH also has an accommodation problem, and this is due to the number of students admitted every year. You can, however, settle for renting an apartment outside the school even though this is going to cost you much.

5. Anchor University Ayobo, Lagos
This is no doubt one of the best private Universities to study in Lagos. It was established by the Deeper Life Ministry.
The chancellor is the General Overseer of Deeper Life Church, William Kumuyi.
Anchor University takes pride in being a disciplined institution. They believe in enforcing morals worthy of emulation into the lives of the students.
The university has three faculties and offers undergraduate degrees.
The fees here are quite high, and many students will not like how strict the university is, even though accommodation is not in the slightest way an issue. There are also no strikes, as private universities in Nigeria are not overseen by ASUU.

6. Eko University of Medical and Health Sciences, Ijanikin, Lagos
As the name of the university already makes clear, this is a tertiary institution for studying health and medical science. It has been accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Courses that can be studied at this Eko University of Medical and Health Sciences in Lagos State include anatomy, biochemistry, medicine and surgery, pharmacology, and physiology.
The school fees are a bit on the high side, with about ₦1,500,000 per session for new students and ₦2,000,000 for returning students.
7. Caleb University
Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, started operation on January 21, 2008, and since then has produced 11 sets of graduates. Its faculties include Environmental Sciences and Management, Pure and Applied Sciences, Law, Art, Social and Management Sciences, and Education. They also have a College of Post Graduate studies.
8. Pan-Atlantic University
Pan-Atlantic University is another good university to study in Lagos. It was established in 1991 and was approved in 2002 by the federal government.
The school fees are a bit on the high side. Depending on the course you want to study at this university in Lagos, you will be paying within the range of ₦2,659,400 to ₦3,037,400 per academic session. Courses such as Accounting, Business Administration, and Economics are the lowest, while Mechanical Engineering and Electrical/Electronical Engineering are the highest in terms of tuition fees.
The tuition fee can be paid in two equal installments before the start of each new semester.

9. James Hope University
James Hope University is a business school located in Lekki Peninsula, Lagos State. The university offers accounting, marketing, business, finance, entrepreneurship, and other business courses.
